Enrollment

1. Verify District Boundaries: Confirm that your address is within the Santa Clara USD service area by checking our School Locator webpage.
2. Complete Online Registration: Register the new student for their neighborhood school using the online enrollment system and upload all required documents.
3. Registration Review: The Enrollment Center staff will review registrations in the order they are received.
   • Timeline: For current school year enrollment, the review may take up to two business days. For pre-enrollment for the following school year, allow 3–5 business days.
   • Confirmation: If all information and documents are correct and complete, the registration will be processed. You will receive an email with your child’s student identification number.
   • Follow-Up: If any information or documents are missing, the Enrollment Center will contact you via email or phone to request the necessary additions or corrections.
4. School Start Date: The neighborhood school will contact you directly to finalize the student's start date.

Before you begin the new student registration on our online enrollment system we recommend that you gather all the necessary documents listed below. Make sure you have all the required documents ready and saved on the computer/laptop from which you are applying. If you are applying from your smartphone you will have to save a photograph of each document on your camera roll. Please make sure all files are legible, clear scans of the original documents in PDF, JPEG, JPG, or PNG file format. 

Birth Record

One of the following is required: birth certificate, baptism certificate, passport, or custodian of the minor (original copy must be uploaded).

Proof of Address

Students who currently live within the Santa Clara Unified School District attendance boundaries are eligible to attend our schools. Parent/Guardian will need to present current required documentation as listed on the SCUSD Approved Proof of Address Document.

Immunization Records (as is age-appropriate)

Immunization record must contain the student's name and date of birth. The following immunization must be administered as is age-appropriate: Polio, DTP, Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B, and Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap).

Once you have gathered all the required documents, please complete the new student registration on our online enrollment system and uploaded all the necessary documents.

• Check-Out Grades (for registrations submitted during the current school year)

Additional Documents Due After Enrollment

Proof of TB Risk Assessment or TB Test

Required for new students registering for preschool - 12th grade. The Risk Assessment for School Entry form​ must be filled out and signed by a United States (US) medical provider, or provide proof of a completed TB skin test or blood test done in the US (dated 12 months prior to school entry). We may use the TB Risk Assessment or TB Test that is on file at your child's school if they are attending a school within Santa Clara County in grade TK-12.

Your primary health care provider will complete the Risk Assessment for School Entry form or TB test. If you do not have a primary care provider, these community health centers can provide testing. 

• TB Skin Test (TST/PPD) must show date given, date read (48-72 hours later), millimeter (mm) reading, and impression. 
• If test results are positive, they may start school, but must provide chest x-ray results (completed in the US within 12 months) within 20-45 days after starting school. 

Oral Health Exam (Kindergarten Only)

The Oral Health Exam can be performed by your child’s dentist up to 12 months prior to school entry and must be completed no later than May 31 of the child's Kindergarten school year.

Enrollment eligibility for students entering the school district is determined by their date of birth, in accordance with the regulations set forth by the California Department of Education (CDE). These state-mandated age requirements are in place to ensure proper grade-level placement for students' developmental stage and academic readiness.

Enrollment for new students for the current 2025-2026 school year is continuous throughout the year. All new students are required to enroll using our online enrollment system, SchoolMint.

2025-2026 Enrollment Instructions:

1. Verify your address falls within the Santa Clara USD service area, please use our School Locator webpage.
2. Gather all necessary documents for registration.
3. Go to the online enrollment system, SchoolMint.
4. Create an Account or login into the system. 
5. Enter the information for the Parent/Guardian. If there is a second guardian, select "Add Another Guardian," then click "Next."
6. Click "Next" after entering the student's information.
7. Click “Add New Student Application.” 
8. Select 2025-2025 school year, enter the previous student’s information and click “Next”
9. Click "Next" after selecting "New Student Registration."
10. The screen will display your child's Assigned School, determined by your address. After reviewing this, select "Confirm."
11. Click "Submit" after you have completed all the required fields and uploaded the necessary documents in each section.

12. After submitting your child's registration, you will receive an automated email confirmation. To double-check that your submission was successful, navigate to the "Home/Student Dashboard." Your child's recently submitted enrollment should be visible there under the "Registration Submitted" section.
13.  The Enrollment Center staff will review registrations in the order they are received.

    • Confirmation: If all information and documents are correct and complete, the registration will be processed. You will receive an email with your child’s student identification number.
    • Follow-Up: If any information or documents are missing, the Enrollment Center will contact you via email or phone to request the necessary additions or corrections.

Enrollment for all new students for the 2026-2027 school year must be completed using our online system, Aeries Air. The enrollment period begins on December 1, 2025, and remains open throughout the school year.

2026-2027 Enrollment Instructions:

1. Verify your address falls within the Santa Clara USD service area, please use our School Locator webpage.
2. Gather all necessary documents for registration.
3. Go to the online enrollment system. (Link will be available December 1st)
4. Choose your preferred language, then click "Enroll a New Student."
5. Click "Next" after selecting the "2026-2027, Pre-Enrollment" school year.
6. Please review the Required Information page, then click "Next."
7. Enter the required information to set up a New Account, and then click "Next."
8. Review the Terms of Service, check the box labeled "I Agree," and then proceed by clicking Next.
9. Please enter the required information for the student you are enrolling, then select "Next."
10. Enter your Address, and then click “Next.” 
11. The screen will display your child's Assigned School, determined by your address. After reviewing this, select "Next."
12. Your account is now created but requires verification to complete the enrollment process. Please check your email for instructions to finish. If the email is not in your inbox, check your spam or junk folder. The verification email will be sent from aeriesenrollment@aeries.net.
13. Next, you will be prompted to log in using your email address and password.
14. To continue the student's pending enrollment, on your Account page and click "Resume" next to their name. This will open the registration form.
15. Click "Next" to proceed between sections as you complete the registration form.

16. Please confirm and review the information you have entered into the registration form. To make any changes, click "Edit" in the relevant section. If all the information is correct, type your name in the signature field, then click "Sign and Submit."
17. To confirm that your registration has been successfully submitted, go to "My Account" by hovering your cursor over your name in the top right corner. The enrollment you just submitted for your child will be listed under "Completed Enrollments."
18.  The Enrollment Center staff will review registrations in the order they are received.
    • Timeline: For current school year enrollment, the review may take up to two business days. For pre-enrollment for the following school year, allow 3–5 business days.

All students currently enrolled in preschool through 12th grade and in our post-secondary program must complete the Annual Student Information Update process online through the the Aeries Parent Portal. Visit the Annual Student Information Update webpage for instructions.

Families with students incoming to grades 3, 6, and 9 must complete an online address verification form to confirm they live within Santa Clara Unified School District boundaries. Visit the Address Verification webpage for instructions. 

Elementary choice programs offer online or in-person information sessions for new families. Middle and high schools offer transition to 6th and 9th grade information sessions. All information sessions can be viewed here:  Information Session Dates and Times online.  

Parents or guardians may choose a language acquisition program that best suits their child. Language acquisition programs are educational programs designed to ensure English acquisition occurs as rapidly and effectively as possible. Any language acquisition program provided by the district shall include English language development (ELD), and within a reasonable period of time, lead to grade level proficiency in English and, when the program model includes instruction in another language, proficiency in that other language. In addition, any language acquisition program shall lead to achievement of the state-adopted academic content standards in English, and, when the program model includes instruction in another language, achievement of the state-adopted academic content standards in that other language.

The Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) Board of Trustees has a policy of limited Open Enrollment (OE), as outlined in BP 5116.12 and AR 5116.12. This policy allows families who live within the District's boundaries to request that their child be enrolled in any SCUSD school.

The transition to middle school is on the horizon for 5th grade students. Current students registered in 5th grade do not need to enroll for middle school as they will automatically be transferred to their school of residence. To find your school of residence, use our School Locator.

Middle schools will hold virtual family/student informational meetings to facilitate this transition. More information will be sent to families directly from middle schools to their future 6th grade students. Meetings dates will be posted in early January on the middle school websites — visit our Schools Directory webpage for links to school websites.

Santa Clara Unified continues to offer open enrollment, as space allows, at each of the district’s middle schools. Students requesting to attend a middle school other than their school of residence, and district employees living outside the district boundaries, must apply for middle school placement through the open enrollment process. The transition to high school is on the horizon for 8th grade students. Current students registered in 8th grade do not need to enroll for high school as they will automatically be transferred to their school of residence. All incoming high school students participate in a visit with a high school counselor to submit a course request. To find your school of residence, use our School Locator.

High schools will hold virtual family/student informational meetings to facilitate this transition. More information will be sent to families directly from high schools and meeting dates will be posted on the high school websites. Visit our Schools Directory webpage for links to school websites.

Santa Clara Unified continues to offer open enrollment, as space allows, at each of the district’s high schools. Students requesting to attend a high school other than their school of residence and children of district employees living outside the district boundaries must apply for high school placement through the open enrollment process. New Transitional Kindergarten Students

We offer TK programs at various sites throughout the district. Students will be placed at one of the TK sites based on their neighborhood school and space availability. Registration in the TK program is optional and transportation is not provided. Open Enrollment only applies to the Scott Lane Spanish Dual Immersion Program, as the SCUSD Open Enrollment policy applies to K-12 students only. Visit the TK webpage for more information.

If space is not available at the student's neighborhood school, the student will be placed at a school within close proximity. 

Current Transitional Kindergarten Students

We hope you and your child have found the transitional kindergarten experience to be a positive one. Your child has been given the opportunity to learn important social, emotional, and academic skills this year and they are now ready to enroll in kindergarten.                                                                                        

Current students registered in transitional kindergarten do not need to enroll for kindergarten. Students will be automatically enrolled in their school of residence for the next school year. To find your school of residence, use our online School Locator.
